Y3 – Day 277 – Red Bus

From NYC to Barcelona to London to Paris and Copenhagen, we have taken the Big Red Bus Tours where you hop on and off all day at your convenience. It’s best to take them (and they are everywhere the least bit touristy) for the full ride first and then pick and choose where you want to explore a bit, disembarking the Red Bus and then stepping back aboard at your leisure when you have had enough. This is one of the ways we traveled with the kids. They hand you earphones and you pick the language you want to hear as the narrator explains the sites you are zooming by. It is a quick overview.

In Barcelona, my family had had enough day tripping and stayed on to go back to the hotel and I stopped off and visited the famous Gaudi sculpture gardens and church. In Paris, it was a great way to get around and stop off at the Eiffel Tower, which was in a too far arrondissement for us to walk to. In London, we saw all the historic buildings and decided to get off at London Bridge and then walk around. In Copenhagen, where we just had a few hours on our cruise of the Baltics, we got to stop off at our first Ice Bar and the Viking Museum. In New York City, we passed by St. Patricks Cathedral and Ground Zero, finally descending at Battery Park so we could eye the Statue of Liberty.

I fondly remember those trips and how much fun we had and getting stuck upstairs (did I mention they are all double deckers)? where it is roofless and getting soaked during rainy weather and getting burnt during sunny and hot weather. The viewing is superior upstairs but you are exposed to the elements.

Here is a photo I managed to get of a San Francisco tour bus and the state seal on the symphony hall. I hope my kids correct me if I got that building wrong.

Y3 – Day 269 – Gracias, Madre

In the heart of the Mission District of San Francisco lies a little known gem tucked away amongst dubious buildings where the best organic, vegan, Mexican style food was ever served. It is called Gracias, Madre.

The plates we had there were even enjoyed by non-vegans in our group. It was high gourmet dining just the way I like it. It was the best produce made with love and intention.

Incredible sauces and techniques takes one cook maybe half a day to prepare but in a professional kitchen, it becomes a snap and is the daily regime.

Y3 – Day 267 – Lake Merritt

What a brief but amazing time we all had up North.

I never knew Oakland was so inviting and picturesque. From Jack London Square to its buildings to its fun Friday food trucks to its expansive Lake Merritt.

Here are some scenes:

Gondola rides on the lake, food trucks on the closed street which I call Off the Edge even though it is Off the Grid, dancing in the museum side entrance with a DJ and live band and creative art and ML.

Y3 – Day 266 – Calm and Serene

When I am about to fall off to sleep and I have a wonderful book to read and all is well in my world and I have had a good day, I feel calm and serene.

When everything is running smoothly in my home and every area is decluttered and shiny and clean, I feel calm and serene.

When I am researching, writing or reading towards my many interests, I feel calm and serene.

When I am amongst positive, supportive, loving people I trust, I feel calm and serene.

When I am attending a fine performance, taking in exhibits at a museum or in the middle of a forest, I am calm and serene.

Scenes of San Francisco from the very center of Berkeley.

Y3 – Day 265 – Campanile

Everyone knows I love trees and flowers, especially conifers and weeping willows, roses and sturdy blooms. This is the view from the top of the parking garage (5th level) by our hotel in the middle of downtown Berkeley. It is a view of UC Berkeley campanile tower which has bells that ring out the hour, every hour.  I guess it keeps the students in the know in case their cell phones die.

Having a campus abundantly forested makes the whole campus sing with higher vibrations.

Y3 – Day 264 – Berkeley with ML

And through a wide and varied array of retrograde miscommunications, misplacements and mistakes, we (ML and I) still managed to keep our cool, one soothing the other, as we carried on through the day and enjoyed each other, my kiddos and the sweet town of Berkeley with all its diversity, unbelievable food and intelligent, creative, inspiring and electric vibe.

This is the view from my room. The sunset over the bay was a timely and precious gift.

Y3 – Day 260 – Too Faced

Oh man, do I like make-up. You may not see it on me much but when I do wear it – I go all out and I have been playing with makeup since I was very young, before I was allowed to “legally” wear it outside the home. I was allowed pastel, creamy, luminescent eye shadow to play wear (only inside the house). Lipstick, the same, pale, nude gloss. But I loved the drama and in another life maybe I would have been a make-up artist. I know whenever I got the chance, I helped backstage at the high schools I taught at with the art of masquerading using cosmetics.

DSC00592I have these in every color – imagine my surprise and giddiness to see them adult sized instead of pocket sized.

Yesterday, after the beach, we travelled to the most talked about job site at my house since Urban Decay, Too Faced. The entire interior is bubbly pink, with shiny, sparkly, heavily crystallized chandeliers and glitz and glamour, old Hollywood style a la Barbie doll. Andy Warhol looking wallpaper of Marilyn and pouty pink lip impressions on gilded foil is strategically used throughout.

I have probably almost single-handedly made these two male owners the millionaires that they are with all the Too Faced products I have loved and purchased since they began back in the late ’90’s.

Thank you Jeremy and Jerrod for the joy and empowerment of your vision.

Thank you to the love of my life for surprising me with a visit to their brand new building he helped decorate, based in Irvine.

Y3 – Day 249 – Mountain Chickadee

DSC00454 DSC00455 DSC00456 DSC00458Notice how there is a black line encompassing the eye of this bird like an eyeliner. The cap of black matches the linear coloring. The white streak over the eye is the only difference that distinguishes this chickadee from a black-capped one. The Parus gambeli  above is also just a tad larger than the Parus atricapillus. Our mountain chickadees love conifers and visits to our feeders. I love photographing them all day long. Their coloring is sensational.
